Our tiny house has the wonderful aroma of maturing cheese at the moment… It’s the Gorgonzola, so it’s perhaps a little pungent to some, ok maybe even for this cheese “wannabe aficionado”! (It might just be my way of getting hubs to build me that cheese cave! Shhhhh don’t tell him 😉). But we’re getting closer to the ripe and ready to eat date! And I’ve got a cracking bottle of red ready to celebrate the momentous purposely mouldy and what will be, significantly smelly occasion!
The weather was pretty horrific on the weekend, to say the least (not that you can tell from the photos that we took, refer below…). The temperature didn’t reach double digits the whole weekend and we recorded a wind gust of 91km!!! 91 km!!! That’s faster than the locals drive on the highway…!! 😜 The poor birds couldn’t actually fly up the hill. Created minutes of entertainment for us cabin fever suffering adults…
Made Halloumi #2, oh the squeak! It’s magnificent!!! Turned the cheese (Gorgonzola and Camembert #2), made more fresh Whey Ricotta, a lot more…
Was feeling industrious for lunch so whipped up the most amazing Croque Monsieur, béchamel to die for (literally will clog your arteries…) and the crisp and sharp flavour of the grilled cheese on top… I would say it was absolutely comparable to the original French version, in France! It was “Magnifique”! With the remaining béchamel, hubby made Penne and cheese for dinner, a penne version of Mac and cheese. We added bacon and broccoli in an attempt to make it healthy (the broccoli bit, of course).
Hubs also fixed the driveway, it had developed quite the hole, it would’ve given the Bruce Highway some serious competition… 😜 So he backfilled it with dirt, which then got completely drenched by a sudden downpour so it turned into mud… Fingers crossed it stays mud and doesn’t wash away with the rest of the driveway… 😂😐😬
Something else on topic to this weekends headliner… We discovered that our wonderful plumbing to the big tanks, the plumbing that we paid the “professionals” to do, is not working! You read right! There’s no rainwater going to our BIG tanks!!! We’ve quadruple checked the connections we did, roof to commencement of professional plumbing… but alas (and of course), no leak from ours. So we have to dig up the trench, when the rain stops and fix it. All that water 😭 The subject is smellier than our Gorgonzola people!!
It was such a bad weather weekend, the kids and I just stayed indoors… the kids didn’t seem to mind, and I needed a pyjama day. We had all the good intentions and a long to do list… Sewing seeds, cleaning, planting, painting… but some days you just need to recharge your batteries… 😂 It’s funny, because we couldn’t… because solar power… 😜 Ah, the adventures of Off The Grid Life.
What did you get up to this weekend???
